After the Rain
Today's a day for reflection.
My sister-in-law, Cheri, died today, after a hard-fought battle with ALS. Cheri taught me about love, commitment, and doing everything possible for those you love. I imagine that she and my brother Frank are both dancing and enjoying themselves, just around the corner from where we are right now.
When I took this photograph, it had been raining all day long. The skies had blocked out all the sunshine as the raindrops kept falling. I took a long walk that afternoon in the rain. I had my weather-sealed camera and lens under my rain-proof coat, taking it out when the rain let up and something caught my eye.
As I approached the stairway back to our place, the setting sunlight broke through the blanket of clouds. The sky was washed with the sunset colors, pink, orange, magenta and such.
These pools of rainwater in the sandy beach reflected that sunset and the masts of a couple of boats that were parked up from the high tide line.
It was the perfect end to an otherwise gray day.
I'll remember how bright and full of life our Cheri was. I hope to reflect some of her love, strength in the face of adversity, and her beautiful smile to everyone I meet.
